Jackson State’s body of work leaves the selection committee little choice because brutal road blowouts at Illinois, Louisville, Arkansas, Auburn, Houston and TCU exposed a clear gap with major conference competition while neutral-site setbacks and losses to lower-end conference foes undermined any claim to quality wins. The few bright moments, an on-the-road victory at Louisiana and conference road wins at Alabama State, Florida A&M and Mississippi Valley State plus home victories over Alcorn State and Prairie View, are real but they do not cancel the damage from those lopsided defeats or constitute the kind of road and neutral wins the committee rewards.
